How listings work

From photo to payment in 5 steps. Here's everything you need to know to sell successfully on Campus Swap.

1

Take great photos

Good photos sell faster. Use natural light and photograph all sides of the item. Show any wear, damage, or defects honestly, buyers appreciate transparency and it prevents disputes.

  • โ†’Use natural daylight, avoid dark or blurry shots
  • โ†’Photograph any damage or wear clearly
  • โ†’Include a photo of the book's inside cover or edition page
  • โ†’3โ€“5 photos per listing is ideal

2

Write an honest description

A clear title and accurate description help buyers find your listing and build their confidence. Include the item name, edition or model, condition, and anything a buyer should know upfront.

  • โ†’Include the book title, author, and edition
  • โ†’For electronics: model, storage, condition, age
  • โ†’For clothing: brand, size, and any defects
  • โ†’Mention accessories included (cables, cases, etc.)

3

Set a fair price

Research what similar items sell for on Campus Swap and compare to new prices at campus bookshops. Listing at 40โ€“70% of the new price typically attracts buyers quickly while still earning you real money.

  • โ†’Check similar listings for price benchmarks
  • โ†’Price textbooks at 40โ€“60% of campus bookshop price
  • โ†’For electronics, factor in age and condition
  • โ†’You can always negotiate, price slightly higher than your minimum

Respond and arrange a meetup

When a buyer sends a message or makes an offer, respond promptly. Agree on a time and public location on campus. Once both parties confirm, the buyer completes the escrow checkout.

  • โ†’Respond within a few hours to stay competitive
  • โ†’Choose a busy campus spot (library, student centre)
  • โ†’Confirm the meetup time at least a day in advance
  • โ†’Have the item ready and available

Complete the exchange

At the meetup, hand over the item and let the buyer inspect it fully. Once they're happy, they confirm receipt in the app and your payment is released from escrow immediately, straight to your account.

  • โ†’Be on time, no-shows damage your rating
  • โ†’Let the buyer take their time inspecting
  • โ†’Don't pressure them to confirm before they're ready
  • โ†’Payment releases automatically once confirmed

Pro seller tips

โฑ๏ธ

List at the right time

Textbooks sell fastest in the week before semester starts. Electronics sell well year-round. Plan your listings around the academic calendar.

๐Ÿ”

Relist if no bites

If your item hasn't sold in 2 weeks, consider lowering the price by 10โ€“15% or updating the photos. Fresh listings get more views.

๐Ÿ’ฌ

Respond quickly

Buyers message multiple sellers at once. The first to respond usually wins the sale. Keep notifications on.
